WANTED!
Horse properties & ranches that are willing to take in feral cats to
live on their properties & be mousers. We have many volunteers
who maintain feral colonies in town & the cats are in danger of being
removed from the only home they know. We will make sure each
feral cat is spayed or neutered & vaccinated. All you have to do
is let them come live on your property to live in peace. We can
also provide bagged dry food.
Please call 533-2761 for more information.

Trappers
Needed!
We receive calls each day from people who
are complaining about
feral & stray cats living in their neighborhoods. Many of these
cats
were abandoned by their owners when they moved away & left outside
to fend for themselves. If they continue to live in these
neighborhoods & are not spayed/neutered, they will continue producing
kittens creating huge colonies of unwanted cats.
What can you do to help?
We need volunteers to trap these cats in these neighborhoods & take
them to local veterinarians to be spayed/neutered & vaccinated.
Often these cats have to go back to the neighborhoods where they came
from because there isn't anywhere else for them to go.
But sometimes we have local horse properties & ranches that will take
the ferals. Tame cats & kittens can be put up for adoption.
If you are interested in helping with these situations,
please call 533-2761 for more information.
If you cannot help, please consider donating money to assist
with the spaying/neutering & vaccinating these cats.
Or donate bags of cat food for the caretakers of these cats.

Lucy crowned Purrfect
Friends Mascot!

Lucy was rescued in January 2008. Found with a rope tied around
her neck, she had been hung from a tree. After receiving a phone
call, Purrfect Friends President, Sheila Main immediately went to pick
her up
& transported her to All American Animal Hospital. Dr. Botros
immediately sedated Lucy & began surgically treating her gaping wound.
The open wound wrapped all around her neck & required hundreds of
stitches. Luckily infection had not set in, but Lucy was put on
antibiotics right away. After spending 4 days in the hospital,
Lucy was sent to a foster home where she recovered over the next 6
months. Her fur has grown back in over a portion of the scar,
but the rest of the scar is visible.
Despite the trauma that Lucy went through, she shows no signs of
aggression or anger towards humans. She is a very affectionate &
loving cat. Her foster home, George Smith, decided to permanently adopt Lucy &
she has become the official Purrfect Friends Mascot, attending events
& showing off her scar while we tell her incredible story of survival.

39 Gray & White Cats Rescued
Volunteers removed 39 cats from a house in May from a hoarder who
had well over 80 cats & kittens living in unsanitary & terrible
conditions. The 39 cats were placed in foster homes until we could
get them spayed, neutered & vaccinated. As of January 2009, all
of the cats have now been adopted into permanent loving homes & are
doing great!
We often receive calls from situations like this before Animal Control
is contacted. Unfortunately when Animal Control arrives before
we do, the cats are often taken to the Lied Animal Shelter & euthanized
immediately.

Emily was the last of the cats we rescued from the above
situation. She has now been adopted into a loving home where she is
doing great!

Purrfect Friends assisted her family in rehoming 4 of her beloved
cats Mischief, Snow King, Zorro & Scarlett. We want to thank her family & friends for the generous donations sent to
Purrfect Friends. The donations will enable us to help many
other homeless cats & kittens.
Purrfect Friends
Volunteers
Visit With Best Friends In Pahrump
A
group of Purrfect Friends Volunteers led by volunteer, Pat Ambroz, made two separate weekend trips to take supplies to Best
Friends who arrived in Pahrump to assist in the travesty at the
F.L.O.C.K. Cat Sanctuary.
Arriving around feeding time, they were greeted
by several Best Friend
workers that in turn thanked them for coming and bringing cat food.
They had been able to collect donations that allowed them to
purchase about 500 cans of cat food. They were shown onto the
grounds and were appalled at what they saw or didn’t see. Best
Friends
had done a remarkable job in cleaning
the grounds in just a single
week, but there were old broken
dishes and only a handful of cats around. The mound of feces that
had been cleaned by Best Friends was in the background and
unbelievable in size. The Best Friends group had put mattresses on a
concert slab so the cats could sleep with them if they wished.
Several very tame cats ran up to the Purrfect
Friends Volunteers, they were heartbroken to see how thin these cats
were. All of the cats that needed medical attention were in a
building being treated and cared for.
They assisted in hauling in donations into the
compound. They had the opportunity to speak with workers from Best
Friends to ask how everything was going. They said "slow as it is so
hot". They also asked what else they needed in the form of supplies.
They were desperate for bleach, rags, mops and buckets, so they
headed into Pahrump to round up additional supplies. They found what
they were looking for so back to the sanctuary (that really is a bad
word for this compound, really it seemed more like a prison for
these cats instead of a sanctuary).
The
volunteer’s second trip was the following weekend and what a
wonderful surprise. The mound had been removed, there were new
dishes full of water and dry food, new fencing had been put up
around each of the small buildings, the coolers were working in each
of the buildings as well, there were several volunteers (other then
Best Friends) assisting, the supply huts were over-flowing and cats
were roaming all over the place. It was mind boggling at how much
had been accomplished in just one additional week.
They assisted again with hauling in donations, filling spray bottles
with bleach and water then making sure each small building had a
bottle. They put
donations into a building
that had
fans
running, when they walked in there were cats everywhere, they stepped
over, petted and cooed at them, and while there two cats were
adopted. The volunteers said
it was great to see them going to their new home. Before they
left for Las Vegas, they walked the compound to see cats sleeping in
the shade, looking content and looking like they were being taken
care of properly. A wonderful way to end the day. We all owe Best
Friends of Southern Utah our gratitude and support for their hard
work and dedication. |
